NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS

THE EASTSIDER - As it turns out, it has been easier than I thought. 

SOUTH OF THE 10 - A small group of influential business owners staged a multi-person protest in front of City Hall today.

THE EASTSIDER - Two issues are becoming very clear.  First, Metro is going to vote to go ahead with an unnecessary NoHo to Pasadena BRT. 

SOUTH OF THE 10 – The Inglewood Police Department is requesting a one-year extension with Hawthorne Police Department, with the option for an additional year, for “high profile” events. 

ELECTION WATCH - When I came to Venice forty years ago, the community was in city council district six, which also encompassed the predominately white Westchester area and the majority-Black Crenshaw district.

THE EASTSIDER - As I pointed out in an earlier post, LAHSA has been officially around since 1993, when LA County and the City of Los Angeles created LAHSA as a joint powers authority to deal with the homeless.

SO VENICE BLVD - Like many in Venice this story is sadly becoming the rule versus the exception if you reside by the Library and specifically Centennial Park.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Inglewood residents protested in front of Warren Lane Elementary School after the district decided to close it without community input.

THE EASTSIDER - As the LA Times proudly announced on April Fools Day. 

SOUTH OF THE 10 – It is being reported the $5 billion SoFi Stadium does not meet FIFA requirements to host World Cup in 2026.

DEEGAN ON LA—The contrasts could not be starker in the race for Council District 13, where Mitch O’Farrell (CD13) faces a primary election race against a collection of first-timers who want his job.

POLITICAL MISCHIEF - “Voter suppression” is a divisive and highly politicized term. But for the slate of bills Republicans are pushing across the country, it’s the only correct one.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - The Inglewood City Council will hold a Public Hearing on Tuesday, April 5, at 2pm on the Inglewood Transit Connector Project.

THE EASTSIDER – Of all the races on June 7^th, I think the City Attorney could have the most impact on the day to day lives of Angelenos.

SOUTH OF THE 10 – The Los Angeles County assessor’s office is alleged to have continued to give favorable treatment to connected taxpayers, allowing them to pay lower property taxes for years and costing the County millions of dollars in lost revenue.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Parents in the Oakland Unified School District are reaching out to Inglewood parents to stop school closures attached to emergency loans the districts took out to remain solvent.

THE EASTSIDER - March is upon us, and the 2022 Nominating Petitions are all in.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Letter to the Editor: Dear 2UrbanGirls, A civil case was filed in LA Superior Court July 21, 2021 by opposing candidate Andre Spicer. He then served Compton 2nd District Councilman Isaac Galvan six months later Dec. 28th.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Has the definition of “urgency” changed? Apparently in Inglewood it has. What was adopted as an “urgent” moratorium on short-term rentals in Inglewood last month, has morphed into a proposed 10-month extension as the number of listings has increased since 2017.

GUEST COMMENTARY - Last Saturday a working group to operate within the Neighborhood Councils system to address issues of concern was formalized at the monthly meeting of the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Coalition (LANCC), an alliance of Neighborhood Councils (NCs) across the City.
