DEEGAN ON LA—Facing a fate worse than a recall—redistricting—beleaguered Councilmember Nithya Raman (CD4) unexpectedly called an audible and brought onto the field a bonafide heavy hitter, someone capable of delivering a home run, to represent her at the soon-to-wrap-up redistricting hearings. 

ELECTING A MAYOR - I’ve been watching Joe Buscaino run for something since before he ever got elected to anything ― including councilman for Council District 15.

NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS - Redistricting in the City of Los Angeles is reaching an end this month for the Redistricting Commission. From there, their final map will be sent to the Los Angeles City Council for approval.

GLENDALE ENVIRONMENT - A seven-year fight by East Area Progressive Democrats (EAPD) and community groups stopped Glendale from turning Scholl Canyon into a larger trash dump with a giant gas plant. 

EASTSIDER - What pledge, you say? One that costs nothing and will significantly improve the viability of the entire Neighborhood Council system, that’s what. 

SOUTH OF THE 10 - WOW Media announced its most artistic full-motion digital outdoor billboard to date.

Letters received from the state bar and sources confirmed by journalist Justin Kloczko show that Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer is under investigation by the state bar for his role in the DWP billing scandal.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - The Inglewood Parking and Traffic Commission began their September 22 meeting addressing the standing room only crowd stating “there was misinformation” floating around that they didn’t have a hand in creating the citywide parking permit program.

RANTZ & RAVEZ-California voters have voted to retain Gavin Newsom as their Governor. With over 60% voting NO on the Recall, his victory clearly shows the future direction of California in the coming years.

RECALL REFORM - Gov. Gavin Newsom has an opportunity to reform California’s flawed recall process with the stroke of his pen. 

NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS-Here’s a question: Do the LA City Redistricting Commissioners think that the San Fernando Valley doesn’t care about redistricting, or is it that the residents are not aware of redistricting?

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Residents continue to fume about the citywide parking permit program, which was implemented to address parking and traffic related issues, which the City is scheduled to begin enforcing October 1.

GELFAND’S WORLD-Somehow, a few people involved in Los Angeles neighborhood councils want to turn their personal disagreements into the equivalent of a crime.

GET OUT THE VOTE - Iretha Warmsley has knocked on doors in South L.A. during election cycles for at least 12 years since she joined SCOPE, Strategic Concepts in Organizing and Policy Education, a 20-year-old organization that operates out of a former firehouse. 

VOICES-The Los Angeles City Department of Transportation and past and current Los Angeles CD 14 staff members ignored their constituents’ concerns and recommendations which led to a massive power outage on August 12, 2021, in our Northeast Los Angeles area.

RECALL VOTE - California Latinos represent approximately 30% of all registered voters in California.  African Americans represent 9%.

RELIGIOUS VIEWS - Prince of Peace Church held a community meeting on August 28, 2021 at 10 am. He shared images and plans for the development and expansion of the church located at 5700 Rudnick Ave., Woodland Hills. 

CAL MATTERS - Imagine picking up the newspaper the day after the California gubernatorial recall election and reading an entirely plausible result: 51% of Californians voted to recall the governor and 49% voted to keep him in office.
