SOUTH OF THE 10 - From the city of Hawthorne: For decades the Hawthorne Mall has become a shell of a gutted building, hosting illegal dumping, graffiti, homeless encampments, hazardous conditions and activities threatening the health, safety, and peace of the community.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) regrets to announce that two police officers have been arrested for warrants related to filing a false police report.

SB 9 ANALYSIS - In July of 2021, some months before the final version of Senate Bill 9 (SB 9) was signed into law, The Terner Center for Housing Innovation at Berkeley published a report entitled, “Will Allowing Duplexes and Lot Splits on Parcels Zoned for Single-Family Create New Homes?”

SOUTH OF THE 10 - The city of Inglewood will hold multiple public hearings Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at 2 p.m.

COMMENTARY - This could have been just another post-Thanksgiving, pre-Giving Tuesday rant about the chutzpah of the greedy class demanding waivers of vaccine and mask mandates for their sales clerks so they can sell more, more, more. 

NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS - Why are the Neighborhood Councils MIA (missing in action) on the Redistricting of Los Angeles County when so many were engaged in Redistricting the City of Los Angeles?

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Digital signage leader WOW Media has recently added six additional full motion digital outdoor boards to its growing network of 22 digital boards in the City of Inglewood, the rapidly developing sports and entertainment heart of Los Angeles.

SOUTH OF THE 10 - Inglewood residents have taken to social media in protest of annual home registration fees that are being assessed to property owners and landlords through the Housing Protection Department (HPD) in accordance with provisions under the Housing Protection Ordinance. 

EASTSIDER - For some reason Angelenos tend to have no institutional memory, probably because the City Council and Mayor warp reality every single day. 

HOMELESS POLITICS - On Oct. 27, Councilman Joe Buscaino submitted three motions asking the Los Angeles City Council to ban homeless people from sitting, sleeping or lying down at 161 locations in council district 15.

NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS - Gerrymandering is the process of dividing a political constituency into districts in an unnatural and unfair way.

CRIME WATCH - October 8, 2021 - Prostitution is now an ongoing operation in the alleys behind the Third Street Promenade. Another set of prostitutes operate on Broadway between Ocean Avenue and 5th Street, outside Santa Monica Place.

LAUSD WATCH - The issue of uncollected overallocation fees owed to the LAUSD by charter schools that occupy space on public school campuses under PROP-39 was first brought up by Board Member Bennett Kayser.

REDISTRICTING POLITICS - At each recent meeting the Chair of the Redistricting Commission, Fred Ali reminds the Commissioners, staff, and the stakeholders on the ZOOM meeting by computer or by phone that the deadline to get the Final Map to the Los Angeles City Council for review is October 29^th, 2021.

DEEGAN ON LA—Facing a fate worse than a recall—redistricting—beleaguered Councilmember Nithya Raman (CD4) unexpectedly called an audible and brought onto the field a bonafide heavy hitter, someone capable of delivering a home run, to represent her at the soon-to-wrap-up redistricting hearings. 

ELECTING A MAYOR - I’ve been watching Joe Buscaino run for something since before he ever got elected to anything ― including councilman for Council District 15.

NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS - Redistricting in the City of Los Angeles is reaching an end this month for the Redistricting Commission. From there, their final map will be sent to the Los Angeles City Council for approval.

GLENDALE ENVIRONMENT - A seven-year fight by East Area Progressive Democrats (EAPD) and community groups stopped Glendale from turning Scholl Canyon into a larger trash dump with a giant gas plant.
