CITYWATCH TODAY—Americans take great pride in their rights. To free speech, from religion, to vote and on and on. Some of those rights are more clearly constitutionally established than others. Among those rights we regularly think we have but are not by law generally … as opposed to specifically … supported is … privacy. Judge Bork argued that the constitution guarantees no right to privacy. The Supremes have ruled more broadly over the years and have argued on occasion that the 14th Amendment offers at least some privacy right.
None of that seems to matter much, however, to our current US Congress. They … actually the Republican members of that Congress … just sold our Internet privacy rights for some real money. Thousands of dollars. For their vote to reverse the landmark FCC privacy rule.
All of the approving votes were GOP votes. Many from California politicians. I think it’s important that you know who sold you out and what you can do about it. Here’s the Verge link that will tell you exactly how much your Congress member or Senator got paid for selling your Internet privacy. Check it out. Speak up. Make notes. Vote smart. Change things.
CityWatch columnist Tony Butka reports on another sellout … in Today’s CityWatch. He exposes the Airbnb contract with LA’s City Hall and why the upcoming final vote is likely farcical. The people getting hosed. Today’s most popular political sport.
Let me know what you think.
