HEALTH & WELLNESS - You’re a healthy person with an active life. On your list of things-to-do, (right before throwing a graduation party for your kid, getting your Masters Degree, or moving out of town for that long-awaited job promotion), is to get that back surgery your doctor has been harping on, or a breast reduction for structural reasons to relieve ongoing pain.
CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH - The children keep coming. Some are rushed to the emergency room of Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego harboring thoughts of suicide, others because they’ve tried — again and again — to hurt themselves.
THE DOC IS IN - If you want to be partisan cuss, or if you want to adhere to the hype over the facts, you're welcome to do so, but you're more foolish than factual in the problems we're encountering and how many of the answers lie right in front of us:
DIVERSITY - “25 years and my life is still, tryin’ to get up that great big hill of HOPE….” is heard coming from a camper singing at the pool and playing the ukulele. The camper is soon joined by their fellow cabinmates in singing the chorus, and another day of hope at Camp Mulberry has begun!
HEALTH & WELLNESS - What functions do fat cells perform? What happens to a body left with fewer fat cells? Are potential customers fully informed about the range of outcomes before they agree to this aggressively marketed surgery? Are doctors regulated when they harm consumers?
STRESSED TO KILL--Everyone has had at least one stressful day in their lives. It’s important to deal with it instead of letting it bottle up.
WELLNESS-As the death toll and cases (aka novel coronavirus) infection rises, our curiosity increases as to the epidemic’s when, why, where, and how.
WELLNESS--The words of the year as 2019 ends appear to be “OK Boomer” and “woke.” To this Boomer, it appears that the younger generation is blaming us for all the Evil in the world, from their perch of “woke” moral superiority. They consider us to be out of touch and over the hill.
WELLNESS--Staying active is one of the most important things you can do for your health as you get older. Active seniors enjoy greater mobility, moods, and independence than older adults who adopt a sedentary lifestyle.
WELLNESS--Every weekday for six weeks this fall, I had radiation treatment for early-stage breast cancer. This journey has been a lesson in our broken social and economic systems.
WELLNESS-I’ve never put much weight on standardized tests. As far as I’m concerned, SAT exams are a better measure of how many prep courses you can afford, and IQ tests don’t really translate to real-world intelligence. For years, I dumped standardized personality tests into this same bucket.
WELLNESS--Does your brain feel tired, lethargic or overtaxed at times?
Do you feel that your brain cannot comprehend and sulks in your tiresome routine? Is focusing difficult for you paired with a weak memory?
WELLNESS--The thought of having ovarian cysts likely sounds terrifying, especially if you’ve never dealt with one before.
WELLNESS-Sleep is essential for our bodies to function. When we can’t get the rest we need, our emotional, mental and physical state can be so profoundly affected that it can be dangerous.
