LA Times Promotes Lindsey P Horvath While Downplaying Trump News

LOS ANGELES

ANGRY ANGELENO - Yesterday, Wednesday, the LA Times had a story with equal sized headshots of Mayor Bass and County Supervisor (previously West Hollywood Council Member) Lindsey P Horvath side-by-side, regarding some sort of Texting Tussle about the Pacific Palisades Fire.  It was first published at 3 AM in the early morning.  A little after 5 PM, it was the Top Story on the Front Page of the LA Times website.  A little before Midnight, it was STILL the Top Story.

NOW, with Non-Stop Negative Trump News 24/7 elsewhere, and rightfully so, because Trump, Musk, and Co are moving at 1,000 miles per hour, the LA Times chooses to pump up Lindsey Horvath's profile instead ?!?!  For what?  Newly created position of County Mayor or does she think she can run for a weakened Bass' LA City Mayoral Gig?  It looks like the author is getting played by Lindsey Horvath's team to advance Horvath's political career.  How does such a non-story about such a low-profile person breakthrough in the beginning days of Trump's Second Term?  Maybe Nika Soon-Shiong, Billionaire Patrick Soon-Shiong's daughter and Lindsey's buddy from West Hollywood (Horvath put her on that city's Public Safety Commission, although the relationship was not disclosed when the Times endorsed Nika's buddy Lindsey) had something to do with this ridiculous placement/promotion.

Lindsey is the Queen of Self-Promotion, campaigning 24/7 and often coming off as quite obnoxious in the process.  If Eric Garcetti was the Mayor of Instagram, then Lindsey is the Queen of All Social Media.  What's obnoxious?  Buses (actually, LA County Shuttles) in Santa Monica with MURALS of Lindsey and HER DOG Winston TOO (his name is on his hat) ...and a plane pulling a banner that says “Beach bound with LA County Supervisor Lindsey Horvath”...and her logo on the back of the bus!  Did you pay for those giant moving billboard ads, Lindsey?  Or is that just a gift from the taxpayers?  Imagine if every local politician behaved this way.  Pictures are from the middle of 2024, btw.

What's obnoxious?  Presenting a $3 Million Dollar Check in West Hollywood, money that came from the FEDERAL American Rescue Plan (ARP) to the County and then from the County to a West Hollywood Project.  The Big Check used in the photo opp has Lindsey's Logo, as if the money came from her.  Did it, Lindsey?  Again, imagine if every local politician behaved this way.

What's obnoxious?  Doing a walking tour of the Palisades/Malibu burn area with Kamala Harris, when she's no longer in power.  Why??  That will only upset Trump, who actually is in a position to help, and Harris is not currently a politician.  It's really just the two of them campaigning together, with the likelihood increasing that Harris will reward Horvath with an endorsement down the road.  Totally obnoxious, shameless, and disrespectful to the victims of the fires.

By the way, you may have read misleading headlines about the results of a recent poll for the upcoming California Gubernatorial race.  Harris is shown to have a sizable lead, but the pollsters are either idiots or, more likely, in cahoots with the Harris camp.  They focus on who Democrats (only) would pick for Governor.  The problem is that we use a Jungle Primary.  For Governor (as well as other positions), the CA Primary, as described by NPR (in 2018) “is a free-for-all. Voters can pick any candidate, regardless of party, and the top two vote-getters will advance to the general election.”  So, then you should be asking ALL voters, not just Dems, because they will ALL be voting for Harris or her opponents in the Primary.  Once you throw in Moderates, like the huge Independent or Decline-to-State, bloc, and Republicans (who don't want to waste their vote when they know that a Republican can't win), that COMPLETELY changes the result of the poll.

Getting back to obnoxiousness, Nika Soon-Shiong was obnoxious, yet again, when she tried to defend her Uber Rich Daddy, by disingenuously claiming that the lack of endorsement of Kamala Harris for President by the LA Times had to do with Harris' stand on Israel.  Are you joking?  She's running against Trump!  Nika should be permanently banished from the Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party for that obnoxious self-serving move.

Is it any wonder that Nika and Lindsey are buddies?

Patrick Soon Shiong's intervention stopped the endorsement of Kamala Harris by the Times Editorial Board.  In a close election, that makes all the difference in the world.  Recently, he's even promoting Genuine Wacko Robert F Kennedy Jr (aka RFK Jr) prior to being confirmed as HHS Secretary, seemingly to further ingratiate himself with Trump.  Looks like his businesses and business deals will likely be looked on kindly by the Trump Administration going forward.  He'll also pay a lot less taxes and his kids might inherit with NO “Estate Tax”, or as Trump calls it, the “Death Tax”.  All those Billions Tax-Free!

BTW, Today's PRINT Edition of the LA Times has a HUGE picture of Horvath and Harris doing their walking tour in Pacific Palisades.  It looks like a mailer for Horvath For Mayor of [insert County or City of LA].  Absolutely shameless and has little to do with the stupid article that runs alongside it.  On the LA Times Website Front Page and App Front Page, you have to scroll WAY down to find the first Trump or Trump Administration headline, when last checked recently.  It sure seems like the Father-Daughter Duo is running the paper in a VERY manipulative way.  So sad for what was once a great newspaper.
