WON'T BE SILENT - Last night while tipping into MSNBC, I watched a segment on The Rachel Maddow Show with Amy Klobuchar that had me wondering about the November election. As you know, I’m all about being a One-Issue Voter, and suddenly a chill went down my spine. The conversation was about abortion rights, contraception, and women’s healthcare when suddenly, I had a strange premonition that not every woman will share that same one issue.
In fact, with the rise in violence we’re seeing around the country between the many incidents involving illegal immigrants (excuse me, non-citizens) and the smash-and-grab hoodlums (what’s the PC name for crooks) without any backlash or accountability from law enforcement. In fact, it’s legal to steal up to a grand worth of stuff and have a nice day. Needless to say, how infuriating is it to see the countless heinous attacks on Jewish people from tablecloth-covered protesters happening all over the country and not just on university campuses.
This weekend, a woman in my Los Angeles neighborhood was beaten and bloodied while cops stood by and watched. I thought back to the 2016 election and how shameful it was the 55% of white women ultimately voted Trump into the White House. With my knickers in a twist, I did a post on TikTok last night because I couldn’t sleep. Something was gnawing on my kishkas. Watch below.
This morning while sipping my second cup of coffee, I was stunned by this article in Politico introducing me to Susie Wiles, the “Most Feared and Least Known Political Operative in America.” Not to mention, she totally looks like Donald in drag. The fact remains, we win in the margins and in my mind, we rely on suburban women (and some dads) to be the rational keepers of the flame of democracy and let freedom ring.
However, that is not on the minds of Trump and his evil twin sister, Susie. I’m concerned that Kueen Karen will be laser-focused on galvanizing Karen Kountry starring Moms for Liberty (libations). Together, they will lead an army of one-issue voters, for the cat grabber himself. (I’m Jewish so I just spit three times, which means God forbid.)
The question will continue to be: Will the threat of violence trump (no pun intended) abortion rights, especially for people who are not one-issue voters? I have been touting my one issue being democracy and that word is beginning to lose its oomph. The more I talk about it, the more I see people eyes rolling back into their heads. I’m leaning into the word “Freedom”. Since there’s plenty of time between now and the election, I will keep my eyes and ears peeled to see how the messaging from Democrats evolves. (It surely can’t get any worse.) As my post from last night says, the soul of America is not on the ballot this time. Maybe it’s the heart. Maybe if you love your freedoms, you will vote for Joe, whether you’re holding your nose or not, doesn’t matter as long as your love for America is the motivation for you to vote blue.
Peace…ABE.
