WESTSIDE - PORAC, the Peace Officers Research Association of California, has endorsed Venice attorney Mike Newhouse in the highly competitive, open seat to replace the term-limited incumbent Ben Allen of Santa Monica in the 24th legislative district.
Allen is now a candidate for California Insurance Commissioner.
The non-partisan primary election is scheduled for June 2nd.
One of California's largest law enforcement agencies, PORAC represents some 82,000 public safety professionals across 950 associations throughout the golden state.
"PORAC proudly endorses Mike Newhouse for state senate. Mike has a clear, consistent record of supporting public safety and standing with the men and women of law enforcement," offered Brian R. Marvel, the organization's president.
"I am truly honored to earn PORAC's endorsement. Our officers take on extraordinary responsibility every day, and I will work hard to ensure they have the support and resources they need as they protect our communities," stated Newhouse, who has received several early endorsements including Assembly Speaker Pro Tem Josh Lowenthal, Assemblymember Rick Chavez, Local 47 of the IBEW (AFL-CIO), Calabasas Councilman Edward Albrecht, Inglewood Councilmember Alex Padilla and former Burbank Mayor Todd Campbell.
PORAC's mission is to empower and represent the interests of rank-and-file peace officers, protect their rights and benefits, and provide programs to meet the needs of the law enforcement community.
Newhouse, a husband, father, educator, small business owner and longtime community advocate, has an impressive resume of public advocacy and experience as a former member of the Los Angeles Planning Commission as well as serving as President of his local Neighborhood Council. The Newhouse agenda is committed to restoring the California Dream of affordability and building an economy that will help Californians in getting ahead.
A coastal district, it includes his neighborhood of Venice, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Calabasas, Malibu, Agoura Hills, El Segundo, Gardena, Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and Rancho Palos Verdes including parts of West Los Angeles.
