DEEGAN ON LA—The future of LA politics has arrived ahead of schedule, even before the November 8 election. The Old Guard is being unceremoniously pushed aside by a New Wave of tidal proportions.

LA TRANSPO - To those of us who followed the recent adoption of the new City street furniture program “STAP” (Street and Transit Amenity Program), the emergence of yet another advertising program “IKE” (Interactive Kiosk Experience) comes as no surprise.

THE VIEW FROM HERE - When something breaks, people look for the cause, believing that if they find out what caused the problem, then they know how to fix it.

ACCORDING TO LIZ - Last week Ron Galperin released another of his excellent reports, this time dropping the bombshell on the Mayor and City Council that they really, truly MUST improve emergency preparedness – people, plans and provisions – for the people of Los Angeles. 

THE VIEW FROM HERE - About eight percent (8%) of the city of Los Angeles is Black. About forty-eight percent (48%) is Hispanics. Mexicans are the largest subgroup of Hispanics with thirty-seven (37%) of the city.

LA CITY COUNCIL - The time has long since passed that Neighborhood Councils be given some real authority.

LA WATCHING - Please! Pretty please! With azúcar on top! I beg you—Kevin de León and Gilbert Cedillo—not to resign your seats on the Los Angeles City Council like Nury Martinez did.

HOUSING CRISIS - By almost any measure, Los Angeles has one of the most serious housing crises of any major American city. Polls repeatedly show that the public ranks housing and homelessness as Los Angeles’ most serious problems.

LA TRANSPO - Over fifty years since it was first envisioned, the new Metro Rail Crenshaw Line/K Line opened October 7, 2022.

LA GOVERNMENT - We have had a devastating week in the City of Los Angeles.  One that has brought into sharp focus the reality that we need more accountability, transparency, and ethics from our elected officials.

GELFAND’S WORLD - On Monday, October 17, L.A. City Council acting president Mitch O'Farrell held a press conference where he announced that he had taken committee assignments away from Kevin de Leon and Gil Cedillo.

LA POLITICAL SCANDAL - With every crisis comes an opportunity. The City of Los Angeles is undergoing the worst political crisis we have seen in decades.

Los Angeles is a massive city. It is the second largest city in the United States, with a metro area population of over 12.4 million.

THE VIEW FROM HERE - LA County has over 251,000 vacant units and only 66,000 homeless people. The city has about 44,000 homeless. 

LA TRANSPO - One of the newest light rail Metro projects, the West Santa Ana Transit Corridor, will serve an under-served area of Los Angeles County.  Where is the latecomer, time delaying, disruptive and unnecessary monorail alternative? 

EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW - Rarely do I walk away in an interview impressed, thinking “this is what true leadership looks like”, and even more rarely would it be a Democrat.

LA TRANSPO -  In a two minute signal cycle of a two way single street, half the time is given to Continuous Flowing Through Traffic in opposing directions and the other minute allows local traffic movements as well as major boulevard crossing traffic to occur.

EDUCATION - California’s Department of Education has finally acknowledged the obvious: It is arbitrarily delaying the release of results from this year’s round of academic testing.

GUEST COMMENTARY - A year after Los Angeles adopted an ordinance to protect renters from harassment by taking their landlords to court, the law has largely failed its purpose.
