THE VIEW FROM HERE - To no one’s surprise, Los Angeles once again chose political vengeance above Truth. During the appeal hearing at city council on March 4, 2025, fired Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley and city councilmember Monica Rodriguez proved that every reason which Mayor Karen Bass asserted to fire Crowley was falsehood. Let’s be clear. The hearing did not posit two contrary allegations, and the council chose to accept Mayor Bass’ allegations. Both Crowley’s and Rodriguez’ comments were based on facts, while Mayor Bass had only falsehood and political vengeance on her side. As the issue was defined by councilmember Tim McOsker: whether to follow the truth or succumb political pressure of a vengeful mayor who, like Donald Trump, cannot tolerate the truth if it displeases her. Councilmember McOsker said the better choice for Los Angeles was to submit to the lies. Why? Presumably, he thinks that Karen Bass is not an honorable enough to accept a reversal of her firing. If the councilmembers followed the truth, then McOsker said, there would be eternal conflict between Chief Crowley and the Mayor.
As was shown, during her 25 years with the department, Chief Crowley has always supported the firefighters, paramedics, and telling the truth. As Chief, wrote several memos advising the Mayor and the City Council of the dangerously low funding of the LAFD. When one memo explained the problems with lack of mechanics to keep the equipment functional, e.g., fire trucks, the mayor had the city not count the number of disabled vehicles and the impact the loss of those vehicles would have upon LAFD. Omitting relevant data is stock and trade of corrupt politicos.
Chief Crowley did not lay blame solely on Major Bass, since Crowley knew that the underfunding of the LAFD had been documented back in 2005 by USA Today. In June, 2013, the county civil grand jury found that Garcetti had downsized and underfunded the LAFD by $200 Million and said that the funding should be restored. He did not.
On March 1, 2012, Hollywood Becomes Fraudywood explained how the city was using materially false data to support Garcetti’s update to the Hollywood Community Plan and two years later in Jan 2014, Judge Allan Goodman agreed that the city intentionally used fatally flawed data and wishful thinking to the extent it subverted the law. The city never appealed the decision. Instead, Judge Goodman was removed from the trial court and the attorney for SafeHywd and HELP, who had presented the data for Judge Goodman’s decision, was disbarred.
After SaveValleyVillage filed a lawsuit that the city not only uses false data, but it habitually violated the law, e.g., Penal Code, § 86, Judge Fruin decided that the city was de facto above the law, i.e., its decisions were non justiciable. The city could ignore the law and citizens had no course. As a result of Judge Fruin, Garcetti’s Manhattanization and the resulting Homeless Crisis became worse and falsehoods replaced truth, honesty, and integrity. The #1 Big Lie was LA had a housing shortage, and thus, it had to destroy rent controlled properties to construct high end units. (Yes, a non sequitur, but do mention it and be culture canceled. ) The city destroyed more than 30,000 units, which were far more than needed to house every homeless person in 2025. Back then LA’s household density was about 2.4 per unit.
In addition, the city was refusing to improve worn out infrastructure. As we just saw, a water main bursts in West Hills destroying people’s cars. It took the LAPD 59 minutes to reach TikTok Evan Lovett’s house because the 911 system is so antiquated that the LAPD did not get the message even though 911 had answered in two minutes. The person responsible for an adequate 911 system is Mayor Bass, and before her, it was Garcetti and Villaraigosa. For over a decade, the deficiencies have been known, but Mayor Bass’ priorities are (1) Woke DEI, (2) catering to corrupt developers and (3) not updating the infrastructure which could leave less money for the developers. That is the real reason behind the Palisades’ fire hydrants ran out of water. It would have cost money to install pumps at sea level to make certain that the huge water tanks in the hills were constantly supplied during a wildfire. That duty fell to Mayor Bass as the DWP is part of the city.
The two biggest issues in the 2022 mayoral election were corruption and homelessness. Mayor Bass has done nothing to stop the rampant corruption which caused the other crisis, homelessness. Instead of addressing any fundamental cause for homelessness, Mayor Bass has created a huge, political patronage system as the multi-billion dollar homeless bureaucracy.
Suppose Mayor Bass had taken the billions of dollars she used for her Woke DEI do-nothing agencies and instead had invested in the fire department. Suppose she had been in LA when the fires broke out? Nothing would have been different since the problem was, as Chief Crowley had been saying of years, the city fire department and its infrastructure were fatally underfunded.
Politicos Hate the Truth
On January 13, 2005, this column wrote about Chief Crowley’s being 100% correct: “The powers-that-be hate nothing more than someone who tells the truth. ... She will pay heavily for speaking the truth.” As we have written many over the decades, Los Angeles City Council is a criminal enterprise and Los Angeles is a crimogenic city. Let’s Review Quisling City Councilmember Tim Mcosker’s Philosophy
It is better to side with political vengeance over truth. Why? For McOsker, siding with the truth would be easy. Thus, he decided to do the opposite: suck up to Mayor Bass and the criminals who surround her. For McOsker and 13 other city councilmembers, loyalty to Queen Bass is better than truth, justice and the American way.
