Editor’s Memo: Justice in Aging

WORLD WATCH

CITYWATCH TODAY—Ever wonder how Washington has trillions of dollars to build a southern border wall, or a gazillion dollars to keep US military complex builders in business … even building things that have never worked or are no longer needed … or millions of dollars to pay for the president’s security and care at Mar-a-Lago and the Trump Tower … but can’t find the bucks for America’s Social Security program? Well, along comes a congressman who says Washington’s math is screwed up.

Rep. John Larson has authored a bill that expands Social Security instead of shrinking it. The package provides an increase for all beneficiaries beginning in 2018; improves the annual cost of living adjustment; sets the new minimum benefit at 25% above the poverty line; cuts taxes for over 11 million SS beneficiaries; and … has millionaires and billionaires pay the same rate as everyone else by applying the payroll tax to wages above $400,000.

The bill bears more co-sponsors than any other previous proposal to expand Social Security and more than two-thirds of the Democratic caucus has promised support.

You can check the bill out here. You can see … and thank … the growing list of 156 co-sponsors here
