Editor’s Memo: Struggling Angelenos Get a Safety Net

WORLD WATCH

TODAY’S CITYWATCH—Almost 30 percent of LA County households either don’t have a bank account or … believe it or not … rely on check-cashing stores. So notes County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl in her CityWatch column. One out of three does a crisis make.

Economic struggle of this size hurts more than just the individuals doing the struggling. It also hurts the LA businesses that would benefit from commerce these folks would generate if they had dollars to spend.

The County Supes are taking it seriously. They’ve created a financial safety net … Center for Financial Empowerment … designed to help low-income households navigate the survival maze. Supervisor Kuehl fills in the blanks and highlights the details in her piece for Today’s CityWatch. Worth the read.

Richard Abrams runs up the ‘scam flag’ at the top of the CityWatch page today. And, explains his contention that LA taxpayers are about to get stuck bailing out Wall Street … again. He makes his case for what Wall Street knows about our city and how the scam works … in Today’s CityWatch.

Let us know what you think. Listening is what we do!
