CommentsEPPERHART EXPRESS--At the final White House briefing before Thanksgiving, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders asked reporters to say what they’re grateful for prior to asking their questions. One, at least, remembered to be thankful for the First Amendment. For the most part, the reporters were good natured about Sanders’ question, responding with the usual family, friends, and so on. I don’t think anyone mentioned Donald Trump as a source of gratitude.
Thinking about what Americans may be thankful for this Thanksgiving holidays suggests some interesting possibilities. Herewith are my thoughts regarding what will be in some folks’ minds as they give thanks this year.
Teenage girls in Alabama: Republican U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore not hanging around the mall offering to sign their yearbooks.
Alabama Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Doug Jones: Roy Moore.
Bill Cosby: Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey, Al Franken, Charlie Rose, and, of course …
Roy Moore. Anybody, in fact, who helps people forget about him.
New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez: The 10 jurors who voted to acquit him (but not the two who hung the jury).
Michael Flynn, Jared Kushner, Ivanka Trump (and many others): Robert Mueller for not indicting them … yet.
People who have health insurance because of Obamacare: The Senate Republicans who voted against killing it.
The one percent: Every Republican who will say and do anything to give them a massive tax cut at the expense of the middle class.
The middle class: Sorry, I can’t think of anything for which they might be grateful.
Millennials: Them, too. (Unless you really like living with your parents.)
AT&T, Comcast and Verizon: The FCC for killing net neutrality.
Governor Jerry Brown: High-speed rail lives! (So far.)
Mayor Eric Garcetti: Media who take his potential presidential candidacy seriously.
Donald Trump: The millions who attended his inauguration and retweet his every Twitter utterance—and BFF Vladimir Putin and the other good dictators, but not the bad dictators like Kim Jong-Un.
A happy Thanksgiving to all. If nothing else, be grateful you’re still around to watch the show.
