Before Calling Israel “Apartheid,” Watch Your State and Mouth, Newsom

Sen. Clyborn and Gov. Newsom

POLITICS

ALPERN AT LARGE - So according to Governor Newsom, a.k.a. “He Who Must Become President Because Of His Great Hair”, Newsom likened Israel because it’s like an apartheid state, and the U.S. needs to rethink its defensive and military relationship with Israel.  Meanwhile, Gavin Newsom tells a black audience in South Carolina he is, in so many words, not very smart and didn’t get a good SAT score…just…like black people!  In other words, Israeli Jews (and the majority of Americans who support Israel) are the racists, and black Americans aren’t very smart.

And THIS is supposed to be the man who is trying to sell the United States about how diplomatic, tactful, brilliant, and worthy of leading this nation he is?

Well, there are a lot of Israeli Arab citizens, soldiers, politicians, and judges of the Muslim faith who can vote, take public office, and are loyal to the State of Israel who would disagree with Governor Newsom’s “Israel is Apartheid” sentiments.

And there are a lot of reasons why the Abraham Accords of President Trump is taking off between Israel and its Arab neighbors—the latter may not “loooooove” Israel, but they realize that it is trying to be a good neighbor, is very democratic in intent, and Israel has enemies by far worse than Israel could ever be.

And there are also a lot of black Americans, and other Americans who support the rise and inclusion of black Americans into our American framework, who recognize that many black Americans are pretty damn smart, capable, and talented.

(For example, as this physician writing this knows, I’ve worked for quite a few of the finest physicians and role models I could have ever been honored to meet, let alone work and thrive under, who just happen to be black.)

Governor Newsom’s SAT score means nothing—I don’t compare my high school SAT score way back from the 1980’s to Governor Newsom’s score…but I do question Newsom’s ability to lead our state to economic and political cohesiveness…

…so if I don’t care about his SAT scores, I care about his list of accomplishments. I’ll let others figure out if my own efforts to build the Expo Line, connect the Green Line to LAX, and promote neighborhood council grassroots efforts were helpful, but my own local efforts in leadership and consensus-building leave no room for stupid blathering.

We ALL need to lead when we’re given the chance, or opportunity, but RESULTS and INTENTIONS matter most of all…and Governor Newsom’s results and intentions are quite likely going to lead to a GOP Governor to replace him, if not a further denigration of the Democratic Party nationwide.

Clearly, Governor Newsom isn’t just lacking smarts—he’s lacking wisdom and tact and even just common sense.

The business culture here in California under Governor Newsom’s watch? The cost of living? The bringing California’s different racial groups and economic classes together? The ability of both Republicans and Democrats alike, or even Independents and Democrats alike, coming together under Governor Newsom’s watch?

Pretty doggone awful.

Does Israel have concerning policies about annexing adjacent land that it could, by right no less than what the United States and other nations have done with lands acquired through wars (which Israel never started!)? Yes.

But with neighbors like the Palestinians, who are not liked or respected and have NOT by and large been good neighbors to Israelis and Jordanians and Lebanese and Egyptians alike, well…it’s complicated.

And the patronizing of black Americans has GOT…TO…STOP!

So unless Governor Newsom, wanting to live in his own reality, wants to shove away every Republican, Independent, and non-racializing American still wondering if Newsom is worthy of any political future, then maybe he’d do well to watch his mouth.

Because unlike President Donald Trump, who clearly needs to watch HIS mouth, the support Gavin Newsom is having based on his RECORD is dragging his approval rating down both locally and nationally.

Because it’s a loooooong way until the midterms, and an even looooooonger way until 2028.

People want cohesion, and while Newsom is promoting the image of a a “fighting moderate” his record shows he does NOT fight and is NOT moderate when he needs to be.

Furthermore, as pig-headed as Trump is, he just threw out Kristi Noem as head of Homeland Security at a political juncture when the majority of Americans still want deportations of illegal immigrants but not with the recent over-aggressiveness shown by ICE agents.

Stubborn can be good, but tone-deaf, Governor Newsom? Not so much.

At this time, I think that Governor Newsom will have virtually no support outside of California, New York, New Jersey, or Illinois if he wants to run for President.

But if he wants one last chance to re-invent himself, he needs to watch his mouth—and to follow the lead of Pennsylvanian Governor Josh Shapiro and Senator John Fetterman if wishes to pull the Democratic Party from its left-wing excesses (forget about the GOP’s own issues for a moment, OK?).

Don’t worry about the State of Israel becoming an apartheid state, Governor—just watch YOUR state for the remaining few months you run it.

And by the way…watch your MOUTH. We don’t need any more Jew-hatred or promotion of “blacks aren’t smart” in either the Golden State, the nation of America, or this ever-changing world.
