THE VIEW FROM HERE - Stephen Miller is Trump’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor. From what we have learned from the inner workings of the White House and Trump’s tenuous grasp on reality, Stephen Miller’s racist policies are setting up Trump for a big fall. During the first Trump Administration, Stephen Miller strongly advocated the cruel and disastrous policy to separate immigrant families. Miller warned that not enforcing the administration's child separation policy (aka “zero tolerance immigration policy”) would be the end of our country as we know it and that opposing separating children from their parents would be un-American! Fearing that the courts would find the policy unconstitutional, the first Trump Administration purposefully did not keep records of which children belonged to which parents. That way the government could not re-unite families.
Back in 2016, Miller is alleged to have been a major supporter of Trump’s charging that Mexicans were "bringing drugs," "bringing crime," and were "rapists" to America, when in reality the illegal Mexican immigrants had a lower crime rate than Whites born in America. Singling out Mexicans was not only racist, it was a terrible policy move.
More recently in 2025, Miller reportedly had a screaming hissy fit at Homeland Security officers for not arresting more immigrants. Looking for criminal immigrants took to much time. Miller wanted 3,000 arrests per day, a goal which could not be reached without arresting law abiding immigrants of multi-generational families who had been here for years. Miller’s rabid anti-Mexicanism torpedoed Trump’s chances to gain more GOP members of the House of Representatives and US Senate in November 2026. Sadistic racists like German Joseph Goebbels and Stephen Miller have motivations which others do not comprehend. Stephen Miller’s urging Trump to skip hunting for criminal illegals and to concentrate on the hard working Mexicans was a substantial cause leading Trump to force Texas to have its mid-census re-districting, which has become a nationwide fiasco. In response, Dem states are redistricting to wipe out GOP seats.
(1) Because dividing Mexicans into legal and illegal does not distinguish between criminal and non criminal, it is non-analytical. LA’s illegal Mexican community has tens, if not, hundreds of thousands of law abiding hard working Mexicans who have been here for several years. The illegals often own businesses and their children and grandchildren are US citizens.
(2) Mexicans were here before Anglos. Mexicans did not come to the United States; the United States came to the Mexicans. In 1542, the Spanish were as far north as Santa Barbara. Los Angeles was formally founded in 1781, but the US did add “Alta California,” to the US until after the Mexican American War in 1848.
(3) During the Mexican-American War many, but not all, Californios favored the United States, since the central government in Mexico City had treated the Californios shabbily. When Angelenos had asked for a few troops to deter Gen. Fremont from coming to California, Mexico City sent criminals whom the Californios had to sequester in the first barrio.
(4) Before and after 1848, Mexicans have been continuously coming north; many as seasonal laborers, and many who stayed. Despite the up’s and down’s with the Anglo culture, legal and illegal Mexicans have served with distinction in our military. In old Mexico individual merit does not open a pathway to a decent life; thus, those Mexicans who chose to stay in the US understand better than many who were born here the great advantages of having individual inalienable rights. In that respect, their attitude towards the Declaration and the US Constitution is similar those who escaped from the Soviet satellite countries, e.g., the Armenians.
Unlike other immigrants, Mexicans have a unique relationship with the United States so that deporting non-criminal Mexicans from Los Angeles is like deporting Jews from Jerusalem. Rather than Trump’s listening to the racist rants of Stephen Miller, Trump should have developed a pro-Mexican policy. Mexicans do not support the Woke division of the world into Oppressors and Oppressed. Mexicans do not seek hand-outs. As someone pointed out to me in the 1980's, when one gets to the top of freeway off ramps, on one side are people selling oranges and on the other side, a different group begging. In addition to their work ethic, Mexicans often work in sweatshops in undesirable conditions, Mexicans pay sales and income taxes, they pay social security taxes, but the illegals cannot collect benefits.
If one listens to the grandiose rhetoric of DEI poverty pimps, the Dems will take care of everyone, but under Wokeism, one group is favored far more than others. Wokers expect Mexicans to share the burden of paying slavery reparations to Blacks despite the fact that Mexico and California never had slavery. Donald Trump failed to realize that Mexicans were the low hanging fruit to be snatched from the Dems. Instead, Stephen Miller has made Trump more hated than even former California Governor Pete Wilson with his Proposition 187. Miller’s racist policies have deterred many Centrist voters from supporting Trump.
In June 2025, Trump’s putting 4,000 California National Guardsmen and 700 US Marines in Los Angeles was absurd, while alienating millions of Mexican and Anglo voters who might otherwise have voted for GOP members to the House of Representatives. A wiser approach consistent with voting demographics would have been to publicly ask for the assistance of the LAPD and the Sheriff’s Department to find criminal illegals of all backgrounds, and in return, Trump would not bother the non-criminal Mexicans. If the Dems disagreed to partial cooperation, the chasing of Mexicans through Home Depot parking lots would be on their heads. Instead, Trump renewed his prior hideous separation of families’ policy by sending mothers and grandmothers back to Mexico. ICE started attacking US citizens and then the new and worst-ever US District Attorney for Los Angeles Bill Essayli announced totally false charges against US citizens for allegedly attacking ICE officers. Because the videos show that Essayli is lying, charges are being dropped before they are thrown out by a judge or grand jury.
Who knows whom the voters will hate most in 2026 -- Trump for following Miller’s racist immigration or the Dems for their Woke anti-Semitism.
