THE CHRONICLES OF LA TO TRANSFORM A VINTAGE LOS ANGELES HOTEL INTO A EXPERIENTIAL POP-UP STORE AND ART EXHIBIT

From December 1-2, residents of Los Angeles will have the chance to take part in the debut of a new experiential pop-up store and art exhibit aptly named The Chronicles of LA. The two-day event will bring together over 60 artists, designers, performers, and musicians from around the world to share their ideas and viewpoints about sex through their own individual talents and unique methods.

The storefront and exhibit will take place at a secret location in downtown LA, with exact details to be revealed ahead of time to those who RSVP to attend. What is being revealed now is that the unique event will take place at a vintage hotel to ensure that the venue itself is integral to the guest experience.

Throughout the two-day experience, guests will have the chance to witness surprise unannounced performances from different dancers, performers, and musicians throughout the venue. This will give each guest a unique experience depending on when they arrive and how long they stay. Guests will also have the chance to purchase art, clothing, and products from the artists participating.

Presenting the event is multimedia artist James Mountford and fashion expert Leena Similu, who first made their mark on the art and fashion scene of London and have now chosen Los Angeles as their next venture. This debut edition in December will be chapter one in The Chronicles of LA series, with forthcoming chapters taking on new themes in different locations.

Artists participating in the showing will include creator of couture sensual tools and evocative objects Adele Brydges, abstract painter inspired by BDSM Ali Silverstein, LA-based multidisciplinary artist Amanda Maciel Antunes, creator of dark luxury artisanal fashions Ammunition Couture, LA choreographer Ania Catherine, Milanese swimwear brand Fantabody, and Sorelli Presents from French director Juliana Sorelli, who runs Hollywood Boulevard's The Evil Rock N Roll Cat.

More artists on board include LA design duo Estudio Persona, British Fashion Designer Ingrid Kraftchenko, LA-based dancer and choreographer Jessica Emmanuel, UK luxury leather and accessories line Melissa Tofton, New York fashion designer mlaed, who creates clothing lines exclusively from waste, Berlin-based designer duo Namilia, London artist well known for exquisite ballpoint pen drawings Cary Kwok, and California art and design project Ready Objects.

This Summit will mark 15 years of coordinated efforts for arts education in LA County. Presenters will share findings from the Arts Ed Profile, a research project designed to identify the quality, quantity and equitable distribution of arts education in LA County. Participate in conversations and workshops to hear updates and success stories as well as learn about local and statewide strategies and resources for including arts in LCFF/LCAPs, district strategic arts plans and student advocacy.

This event is recommended for school board members, superintendents, district and school leaders, VAPA coordinators, teachers, arts leaders, community partners, student leaders and community advocates.

The Los Angeles County Arts Education Summit is part of the California Alliance for Arts Education's Arts Now Campaign spotlighting opportunities to strengthen and advance the statewide arts education agenda.
 

The fall show will be held October 21 & 22, 2017

from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The free show features art by over 245 artists from around the nation who showcase their work in painting, sculpture, watercolor, photography, mixed media, ceramics, jewelry, drawing and printmaking.

Weather in Southern California is generally sunny and temperate, but please check the forecast before you depart for the show. The Beverly Hills artSHOW is open rain or shine. We recommend you use sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Of course, water is available for sale throughout the Beverly Hills artSHOW.

Your Dog!

Your special family member is quite welcome to attend the artSHOW!  A couple of regulations do apply.  All dogs must be on a leash and the owner should bring a pooper scooper bag, just in case, and of course, dogs should never do their business within an artist's space.  Dogs may peruse the entire four-block event with their owners, except for the wine garden and the beer garden, due to health department rules.  There are many other places to sit, eat, and relax however, and we hope you and your canine companion enjoy the show.

Northridge, CA – Thursday, The Resistance Northridge, will hold a protest rally in coordination with several other local resistance groups at the Mike Pence GOP Fundraiser this week.  

Mike Pence will be at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills on Thursday, September 14^th to host a fundraiser dinner for the GOP California Representatives that are vulnerable in the 2018 mid-terms. While Pence is there pandering to the 1%, We, the People will be outside engaging in Democracy. We, the People, who represent America, will be calling Pence and the GOP to task to represent all Americans no matter race, color, creed, or sexual orientation.  The message of the rally focuses on the point that our Democracy should not be for sale. 

Counter fundraising is also planned to benefit organizations, such as Swing Left, Planned Parenthood, CHIRLA, Black Lives Matter, LGBT Center, and many others.  Feel free to donate in the name of Mike Pence. 

Voter Registration will also be taking place.  Anyone who is looking to take a more active role in civic engagement, let us know and we will connect you with a group in your neighborhood. 

Parking: Parking restrictions before 6 (1--2-hour parking during the workday) no restrictions after 6, during weekdays.  We looked at some residential streets N, of Wilshire, such as Walden (2 hour before 6), Linden (1 hour before 6) Roxbury (no parking 8-5).  Therefore, no limitations after 6 on many of the streets. There is also a 2 story lot that runs a few blocks between Santa Monica and Little Santa Monica, has paid parking before 6 and free parking after 6.  You may also want to consider carpooling or using a service like Lyft or Uber.

But with these game-changing measures under our belts we are bringing our coalition together again for another of our Annual Transportation Conversations — the 9^th! — in order to discuss which problems might all tackle next.

Our coalition has been expanded beyond the original business-labor-environmental constituencies. It now includes faith-based organizations, advocates for social justice and for a more bike and pedestrian-friendly LA County, seniors, people with disabilities, and students. And as our coalition expanded, perhaps our ambitions should expand too.

What’s next LA? Of course we should engage in the implementation of Measures R and M. Our rail system is growing, but bus ridership is declining, and that's not good enough when voters just approved major new operations funding.

Should we also work to make sure the affordable housing program in LA County is more robust, especially near transit stations, and that anti-displacement strategies are in place?

Should we join our environmental & environmental justice allies to seek a real solution to LA County's longstanding air pollution challenge while also achieving enormous reductions in greenhouse gases?

LA WOMEN SPONSOR FREE ADOPTIONS AT LA COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTERS 

Los Angeles residents Erika Brunson and Margie Perenchio will pay adoption fees at four LA County animal shelters beginning Friday, August 4^th through Sunday, August 6^th as part of PRAI Beauty’s “Free the Shelters” campaign. The campaign was launched in May and has helped more than 650 animals get adopted at 10 shelters across the country.

WHAT: 

Adoption fees waived at four LA County animal shelters the weekend of August 4^th thanks to the generosity of LA residents Erika Brunson and Margie Perenchio.

Adoption fees will be paid by LA residents Erika Brunson and Margie Perenchio. Brunson and Perenchio as part of “Free the Shelters” started by Cathy Kangas, CEO and Founder of PRAI Beauty. The three women are all members of the board of directors of The Humane Society of the United States.

There are a total of 652 dogs and 457 cats at the four participating LA Shelters.  Cathy Kangas will announce the LA event during her August 3^rd appearance on HSN-TV where she sells PRAI Beauty, her successful skincare line that donates a portion of every sale to helping animals.

WHY: 

Shelters should be short-term foster homes rather than a long-term jail sentence for companion animals.  “Free the Shelters” has been rolled out across the country resulting in more than 650 animals finding a permanent home. About 2.4 million healthy, adoptable cats and dogs – about one every 13 seconds – are put down in U.S. animal shelters each year.  Research has shown that removing adoption fees increases the number and speed of pet adoptions and reduces euthanasia.

Los Angeles—Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez announced the first-ever Van Nuys Arts Festival to be held September 29^th at the Van Nuys Civic Center.  This festival will showcase local artists, activate the civic center, and provide an opportunity for family fun right in the heart of Van Nuys. Councilwoman Martinez also announced the selection of the festival producer, Champion City.

“We have so many talented people in the Valley,” said Councilwoman Martinez.  “I’m excited to bring people together to showcase the incredible talents and skills of our local artists. Champion City shares this vision and they’re the right people to be producing our first-ever Van Nuys Arts Festival.”

Champion City approached the Van Nuys Arts Festival with the vision to highlight the San Fernando Valley’s exciting music and arts scene, and bring recognition to the cultural-rich history of the city. This festival is a new platform that showcases talent and arts organizations that are shaping the Valley’s culture.

“This festival represents an opportunity to celebrate a creative community and spotlight its talent, which is at the core of Champion City’s mission,” says Eddie Cota, Founder of Champion City.

The programming will include live musical performances, an art book fair, a vinyl pop-up store, live mural paintings, a museum pop-up with artifacts of the San Fernando Valley, a classic car show as a nod to the historic Van Nuys Blvd. scene, a silent disco DJ set, family activities, food trucks and more. They are developing an experience that brings a new sense of celebration, pride and excitement to the community. The festival will be funded through the Private Arts Development Fee Program (ADF) administered by the Department of Cultural Affairs.

On Saturday, July 15th the City’s Personnel Department will provide Angelenos the opportunities to learn about various police and civilian jobs available with the Los Angeles Police Department. The Hiring Expo provides interested candidate with officer panels, on-site testing and information booths where they can learn about open positions with a salary range of $60,907 to $93,793.

Today, Los Angeles is one of the most ethnically and geographically diverse cities in the country. Its residents speak 224 languages and live in diverse communities. LAPD Officers are sworn to protect and to serve more than 4 million Angelenos within a sprawling 465 square mile jurisdiction.
