California General Election Results: Predictable

FINAL NUMBERS:Jerry Brown will be the first four-term governor in the history of California. The septuagenerian incumbent declared victory after his Republican opponent, Neel Kashkari, called to concede.

Governor Brown's ballot measures 1 (the water bond) and 2 (the rainy day fund) passed easily, Propositions 45 and 46 cracking down on insurers and doctors failed by large margins, Prop. 47 to reduce many felonies to misdemeanors passed, and Prop. 48 to allow an Indian casino on non-reservation land failed.

In a nationally watched race that drew over $10 million in outside spending, State Superintendent Tom Torlakson beat school-reformer upstart Marshall Tuck, while two supposed shoo-in Democrats faced unusually stiff competition for Secretary of State and State Controller.

And here in our humble burg of Los Angeles, Jim McDonnell obliterated Paul Tanaka in the Sheriff's race, and Sheila Kuehl is running neck-and-neck with Bobby Shriver in the race for a seat on the all-powerful LA County Board of Supervisors.
