Urgent Update: Not too Late to Save Calif Plastic Bags Ban

ARCHIVE

ACTION MEMO-Last week in CityWatch I bemoaned the fact that the statewide ban on single-use plastic bags had lost in Sacramento for a second year in a row.  However, I noted, procedurally there was an opportunity to reconsider the vote before the August 31, 2014, deadline.  Lawmakers (under the guidance of State Senator Alex Padilla) pursued this option which ultimately saw passage in both houses of the State legislature.

We are close to victory except for one more hurdle:  Governor Brown must sign the bill sometime within the next 26 days.

Please call or e-mail his office asking that he sign into law this piece of legislation that is not only so necessary to improving our environmental conditions but is also a regulation that a majority of Californians endorse.
