General information for Candidates Pamphlet - 2013 Council District 6 Special Election

LOS ANGELES (January 3, 2013) — Los Angeles City Clerk June Lagmay announced today that the General Information for Candidates pamphlet for the 2013 Council District 6 Special Election and Special Runoff Election is now available.  This pamphlet provides vital information and legal deadlines for individuals interested in becoming a candidate for Los Angeles City Council, District 6.

 

To be eligible to run for this office, candidates must have resided in Council District 6 at least 30 days before the first day to file for the office.  Thus, based on the proposed Special Election schedule, candidates must be residents of Council District 6 by January 5, 2013.  Candidates must also be registered voters of Council District 6 at the time of their nomination or election to office.  The first day to file the Declaration of Intention to Become a Candidate and pick up Nominating Petitions is February 4, 2013.

The Council District 6 Special Election will be held on May 21, 2013 – concurrent with the City’s General Municipal Election on that date - and the runoff, if required, will be held on July 23, 2013.

The Office of the City Clerk - Election Division administers elections for the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the Los Angeles Community College District. The City’s Primary Nominating Election will be held March 5, 2013 and the General Municipal Election will be held May 21, 2013.
