#  A Walkable LA: Top of O’Farrell’s Wish List

NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS--Making Los Angeles a more walkable city is one of my top priorities. NEIGHBORHOOD POLITICS--Making Los Angeles a more walkable city is one of my top priorities. That's why I'm thrilled to announce that we are about to dedicate several new pedestrian safety improvements throughout the 13th District! *(Photo above: LA Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell pushing for a walkable city.)* Here’s a recap of what to expect in the coming weeks:

 **Echo Park**: my office has been working with local residents and stakeholders on a signalized crosswalk at Mohawk Drive and Sunset Boulevard. As many of you know, this is a dangerous stretch of Sunset due to the curve in the road. The signal will help slow down speeding cars and improve accessibility for pedestrians in this bustling commercial corridor near Fire Station 20.

 **Historic Filipinotown**: At the request of residents, we worked with the Department of Transportation (LADOT) to install a new stop sign adjacent to Union Avenue Elementary (2nd Street and Union Avenue). This safety feature will help reduce high vehicular speeds and volume.

 **Hollywood**: we plan to flip the switch on the following signals in the coming weeks:

- A full traffic signal at Highland and Hawthorn Avenues (part of a Safe Routes to School project).
- A full traffic signal at Hollywood Boulevard and Gramercy Place (part of the Hollywood Western Streetscape project).
- A “scramble” (diagonal) crosswalk at Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street.
- And we will break ground for a new full traffic signal at Hollywood Boulevard and McCadden Place, which will be completed later this year

**Silver Lake**: Crews with the Los Angeles Department of Transportation are currently installing a new pedestrian-activated warning beacon (a flashing yellow light for vehicular traffic in both directions) next to the Silver Lake Recreation Center at Silver Lake Boulevard and Van Pelt Place. The new feature will provide greater access to the dog park, as well as the soon to open South Dam walking path. Construction should wrap up by the end of the month, and activated in the coming weeks.

 During my first term in office we dedicated more than a dozen pedestrian safety improvements, and I look forward to welcoming more in the years ahead. ATWATER VILLAGE - Councilmember O'Farrell's next community walk will take place on **Saturday, January 27, at 9:30 a.m., starting at Fosters Freeze, 2760 Fletcher Dr, Los Angeles, 90039.** We'll then go door-to-door to distribute important contact information for free City services. Volunteers from the community and the Los Angeles Conservation Corps will also participate in a neighborhood beautification project. Hope you can join us!
