# How Hollywood Is Continuing to Influence Other Forms of Media

Hollywood has always borrowed ideas from other parts of culture. The traffic now runs both ways. Films and big-budget television have become such powerful visual influences that their style regularly spills into parts of the media and even advertising.

Sometimes the connection is obvious. It can be a direct tie-in based on a major film or character. Other times it is more subtle. A game might use dramatic camera angles that feel straight out of an action movie. An advert may use blockbuster-style editing to make an everyday product seem far more dramatic than it really is.

### Gaming Has Become Much More Cinematic

Gaming is probably one of the clearest examples of Hollywood influence.

Casino games show this in several different ways. Some slots use direct tie-ins with films or famous franchises. This normally gives the game an instantly recognizable theme. Things like music and bonus features can all be built around scenes or characters that players already know.

But the influence goes further than simply putting a film logo on the reels.

Modern slots often use dramatic introductions and graphics that would have looked excessive in older casino games. Some bonus rounds almost feel like short action sequences. We see changing environments creating far more spectacle than a traditional reel layout ever needed.

Hollywood can be felt in the presentation of many slot games. The range of slots at [SlotsLV](https://www.slots.lv/) shows the wide range we see in the industry. Some are still based on more retro graphics. Many have a modern look to them and features and mechanics that have come a long way in recent years.

Fantasy slots may use sweeping landscapes and dramatic heroes that resemble blockbuster adventure films. Crime themes often borrow visual ideas from gangster movies. Many sci-fi games can lean heavily on glowing futuristic spaceships and cinematic soundtracks.

Mainstream video games have taken this influence even further.

AAA games regularly use motion capture, professional actors and huge musical scores. Story scenes can last several minutes and are often directed much like film sequences. This includes carefully chosen camera angles and dramatic lighting.

Games such as The Last of Us and Uncharted all show how close the gap between gaming and cinema has become. Uncharted was even turned into a movie (with mixed success but [good box office figures](https://www.cinemablend.com/movies/box-office/uncharted-does-surprising-box-office-numbers-again-as-hollywood-fails-to-provide-any-real-competition)).

### Television Has Started Looking More Like Film

Television used to have a very clear visual divide from cinema. Hollywood has always been the [home of film](https://mail.citywatchla.com/los-angeles/33432-hollywood-the-fate-of-the-film-biz).

Big films had huge budgets and carefully designed sets in those older days. Much television was often made more quickly and with much simpler production.

That gap has narrowed dramatically.

Streaming services and major television studios now produce series that look almost indistinguishable from films. Large sets and long action sequences are no longer unusual.

The style of storytelling has changed too.

Television once relied heavily on self-contained episodes because viewers might miss a week. Modern series are more likely to tell one long story across an entire season, ending episodes on dramatic moments that pull directly into the next chapter.

That has made television feel more like an extended film experience.

### Publishing Has Become More Cinematic

Books cannot use camera angles or special effects. But Hollywood still influences the way some fiction is written and marketed.

Thrillers are a good example.

Many use things like rapid scene changes and dramatic cliffhangers that feel closer to film editing than older literary styles. Descriptions may also focus heavily on visual detail. It often feels as though the writer is imagining how a scene would look on screen.

This is not necessarily because every book is secretly trying to become a movie. It is partly because readers have spent decades absorbing cinematic storytelling.

Book covers are affected too. Some lean heavily on poster-like design. We see dramatic images and large typography that would not look out of place outside a cinema.

### Advertising Often Thinks Like a Blockbuster

Advertising may borrow more from Hollywood than almost anything else.

A car advert can look like the opening of an action film.

A perfume advert may use moody lighting and mysterious characters without explaining much at all.

Sports brands regularly use slow motion and dramatic editing to make a short commercial feel far bigger than its running time.

Hollywood techniques help advertisers create emotion very quickly. This is useful when there may only be 30 seconds to make an impression.

Even trailers have influenced ordinary advertising. Not least because we see so many actors from the movies we love in ads. A-listers [regularly put their name to big brands](https://www.backstage.com/magazine/article/celebrity-commercials-bryan-cranston-brad-pitt-70742/).

### Theme Parks Turn Hollywood Into Physical Spaces

Theme parks are another interesting example because they take film ideas and build them in the real world.

A successful movie can become a ride or an entire themed area. Or vice versa. Pirates of the Caribbean famously started as a theme park ride.

Music that once played in a cinema can become part of the background atmosphere while people physically move through the space.

This is Hollywood influence taken to its most literal extreme.

Instead of watching a fictional world, people walk through a version of it.

The real power of Hollywood is not simply that films are popular. It is that generations of people have learned how to read cinematic ideas. These are being used in other areas of day-to-day life and media.

Hollywood’s influence is already built into the way modern entertainment looks and feels.
