NCs, Mayor Begin Work on 2012 City Budget

ARCHIVE

MAYOR’S BUDGET DAY - Become informed.  Become involved.  Become empowered.  Join Mayor Villaraigosa, other City Officials, and the current year’s Budget Advocates for the Mayor’s Community Budget Day this Saturday, October 29th, 8:00 am – 12:30 pm at City Hall.

The agenda includes greetings and presentations by Mayor Villaraigosa, City Controller Wendy Greuel, City Attorney Carmen Trutanich, City Council President Eric Garcetti and a display of our City’s financial situation by City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana.  Then, the participants will adjourn to seven regional “Break Out Sessions” to express their views and opinions and to elect this year’s Neighborhood Council Budget Advocates (NCBAs).

For this event, every Neighborhood Council (NC) has been asked to elect or appoint two NC Budget Representatives, who will in turn be regionally electing this coming year’s Budget Advocates and alternates.

To date, many Neighborhood Councils have notified the Mayor’s Office of their intention to send their two appointees, but some Neighborhood Councils have not.

PLEASE CHECK with your NC President to ensure that your NC will be sufficiently represented.  Then, either as your NC’s Budget Representative, or as an interested community member, JOIN US on October 29th.

“Each neighborhood council may present to the Mayor and Council an annual list of priorities for the City budget,” states the City’s Charter (Sec. 909).  The Mayor’s Office has worked over the years with neighborhood councils and their selected representatives to help stakeholders like you to become informed about the budgetary process and have an opportunity to give input to the City’s decision-makers.

The Mayor’s Office hopes that on October 29th there will be representation from each of the 95 Neighborhood Councils from throughout Los Angeles, and that the great diversity of communities, cultures, ethnicities, interests and ideas that make up our great city will be represented.  Hope to see you then!

To make your reservation (and if you have not already done so through other channels) email Joe at [email protected] or call 310-479-3823 with your name and contact information.  To reserve parking, include your vehicle’s make, model, color, and plate number.

(Joseph Hari is the West Los Angeles Area Director for Mayor Villaraigosa.)
