CDPH to Promote COVID-19 Treatments at “Shots of Love” Event in South Los Angeles

Event will feature a dance performance to CDPH’s new “Test It. Treat It. You Can Beat It.” public awareness campaign song

LOS ANGELES— The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) will promote COVID-19 treatments at a “Shots of Love'' mobile vaccination clinic and community outreach event hosted by the Minority Aids Project in South Los Angeles. The event will also feature a lively dance performance of CDPH’s new “Test It. Treat It. You Can Beat It.”.

- What: CDPH to promote effectiveness and availability of COVID-19 treatments at “Shots of Love” mobile clinic event in South LA.
- When: Tuesday, February 14 from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- Where: Minority Aids Project at 5149 W. Jefferson Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90016
- Interviews:
- Dr. Seira Kurian, Regional Health Officer, with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health will be available to speak on the effectiveness of COVID-19 treatments
- Reverend Russell E. Thornhill, CEO of the Minority Aids Project will be available to talk about the “Shots of Love” mobile clinic and community outreach event.
- Visuals:
- DJ and dance performance of catchy new “Test It. Treat It. You Can Beat It.” songs in English, Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Tagalog.
- Community members visiting mobile clinic and COVID-19 treatments information booth.

Though national and state emergency orders are anticipated to be lifted, COVID-19 infection and mortality rates still impact a lot of people. The good news is COVID-19 treatments are widely available to help higher-risk Californians recover.

COVID-19 antiviral medicines target specific parts of the virus to stop it from multiplying in the body and infecting more cells. They can stop the illness from getting serious, and can reduce the risk of hospitalization and death by half, if they are taken in the first 5-7 days of symptoms. In addition, early evidence suggests COVID-19 treatments may lower the risk of developing long COVID symptoms, and may help people test negative sooner. The medications are highly effective, widely available and free, regardless of insurance or citizenship status.

The vast majority of American adults and some teens are eligible for COVID-19 treatments, but there is still more work to do to ensure all Californians are aware of their effectiveness and availability. That is why CDPH launched “Test It. Treat It. You Can Beat It.” – a refreshingly optimistic campaign to increase public awareness and utilization of highly effective and widely available COVID-19 treatments, particularly among eligible Californians who are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.
