Sunny Blue is a small authentic Japanese restaurant on Main Street in Santa Monica selling omusubi, handcrafted rice balls with various fillings, known as *omusubi* or *onigiri*—as the Japanese equivalent of an American sandwich.

> Sunny Blue sell thousands of omusubi each day for the past 3 years, and their success has led to the opening of a second location in Culver City. Just ask check out their rating on yelp.com. It has 766 reviews and an almost perfect 4 1/2 star rating....so what is the craze?

> An omusubi consists a triangular scoop of white or brown rice of a crispy nori or seaweed wrapping. The filling is tailored to your taste buds with options of beef with miso sauce, curry chicken, spicy salmon, Japanese pickles with wasabi, tuna, shiso ume or king oyster mushroom king oyster, eggplant or cod, with a generous sprinkle of Kewpie mayo and sesame seeds on top. Not only are all the ingredients extremely fresh, but the most items are gluten-free.
