# Violent Crime Spikes in LA … Silver Lake, Echo Park Outraged at LA Times

**DAILY NEWS TO HOST MAYOR’S TOWN HALL** - The Mayor of Los Angeles, Antonio Villaraigosa, will answer the public's questions in a town hall on Monday, May 23, at 6 p.m. at Reseda High School. [\[link\] ](http://www.dailynews.com/mayor) You must make your request to attend before May 18.
The Town Hall comes at a time when violent crime is up significantly in the City, [\[link\]](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/05/la-crime-alerts-224.html) including three in Ed Reyes' Council District 1 in the past week. Among the past week's murder victims are:
Gabriel Aron Ben-Mier, an MTV music coordinator, killed in Mid-Wilshire Sunday morning. [\[link\] ](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/05/2-arrested-in-string-of-robberies-link-to-mtv-employee-murder-investigated.html)

Blanco Hernandez, allegedly killed by her son in Pico-Union Monday [(son killed by police)](http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2011/05/lapd-deadly-stabbing-.html).
People in Silver Lake and Echo Park are outraged that the Times' coverage of the murder of Ben-Mier has apparently excluded coverage of the murder of popular clerk Mickey David.
The murder of Madera has been similarly neglected.
The beating of a SF Giants fan five weeks ago at Dodger Stadium on Opening Day, also in Reyes' district, remains unsolved despite the fact that there were over 100 witnesses to it.
